What is Character Education?
Character education is an initiative that guides the school’s
curriculum and activities. It will not replace the current curriculum and
instruction; instead, our defined virtues will be emphasized in classroom
instruction. While students are continuing to learn in their daily routines,
teachers will also highlight how our values are applicable to the material.
Students have one period each week dedicated to character enrichment.
Additional activities and service learning opportunities will take place on
occasion in order to apply positive character to all aspects of life.

Wednesday Character Advisory
Character Advisory is dedicated to strengthening and developing positive character.Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders have been mixed and jumbled together into one of nineteen Advisory groups that meet once a week! Students will engage in team building and inter-personal activities that promote the virtues valued by the Wright City community. The purpose of the class is to help enrich students' positive peer interaction skills, to foster an environment that creates a sense of belonging, and for students to see teachers in a different light!
Parents are encouraged to have a conversation with their children about the week's activity.

Student Ambassadors - "Keeping Character Cool."
Student Ambassadors is a group of 20-30 students, nominated by their teachers, who actively promote positive character in our building and in the community. The group is sponsored by Mrs. Joan Aleman, 8th grade Communication Arts teacher, and me.
The group meets every other Tuesday after school from 2:30-3:30.
2012-2013 is looking to be a busy year for the Ambassadors! After piloting the program last year, we are now fully geared to promote positive character in our school. Ambassadors are the friendly faces for welcoming new students, peer mediation, bully prevention, and service projects. The group's focus on service to others makes the Ambassadors excellent role models for their peers.
Middle school students find themselves in a wide variety of tough situations every day. By "keeping character cool", ambassadors set a positive example of what it means to do the right thing. This is not always easy and sometimes it takes tremendous courage, but this group of exceptional students are up to the challenge! We are all looking forward to one of best years ever here at Wright City Middle, a year in which all students love coming to school to learn not only “school stuff” but what it means to be a part of a true learning community built on mutual respect and common understanding. - Mrs. Aleman
